The stormy weather outside on regional contest day fit right into the theme of our inside chorus breakfast and rehearsal, where there were raincoats, weather reports, funnel clouds, and lots of sound being cycled up and out! We had so much fun that weekend and want to congratulate everyone on a great contest!
Now it 9s time to switch gears and plow back into our package for IES, with a preview planned for Summer Singsation in June. See you there! Our newest members just happen to be leads!
Please help us to welcome Nancy Zuromski, brand new to Sweet Adelines, and Robin Hanson, whom many already know and love. We are also so thrilled to have Laura Hammons back with us after a hiatus! Metro Nashville is extremely grateful to our own Jennifer Palus for creating our new MNC logo, seen below.
It represents us well: singing while holding hands and hearts. SAI Region 23 3 Heart to Heart ... more.

Harmony Hills Chorus Submitted by Lynette Pope Wow&.what an awesome regional contest.
It is a BLAST, spending the weekend in Chattanooga with our friends from Region 23. Everyone has worked for months and months preparing for competition. Finally it 9s here, we get together to support each other, then relax and have some fun.
The afterglow was a hoot! And yes&..we 9re still working on our director 9s wardrobe&. It 9s been a wonderful spring 08 for us.
That last bit of coaching encouragement from Captain Bloody Blackheart the Red (aka SOA Master Director Becki Hine)&was quite effective&.Hmmm& why bother? or WHY NOT? It stuck!
Congratulations to Fiddlestix! We are very proud to be the home chorus of Baritone Portia Little, and the first home chorus of Lead Michelle Shoemaker. Good Luck to Sherry Lewis, Michelle, Portia, and Marcy Cunningham.
We know that you classy ladies will represent our region in grand style. Look out Hawaii! The next big event for Harmony Hills will be our annual show on August 9, 2008.
Our special guests will be cThree on a String d. For more than 20 years, these guys have entertained audiences across the country at music festivals, clubs, company parties and picnics, conventions, symphony pops concerts, TV, and "packed house" concerts. Three On A String 9s show has evolved into a dynamic, well timed, hilariously funny, clean presentation that leaves the audience wanting more.

Smoky Mountain Harmony Submitted by Chris Chasteen Smoky Mountain Harmony is proud to introduce our new director, Kevin Miller. Kevin holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Tennessee and has grown up in the Knoxville area. His musical talents and achievements include Barbershop Harmony Quartet singing with the cQuintessential K 9s d, Honors bands and choruses.
He is a proud UT alumnus and avid UT sports fan. Kevin has been a music educator in Clinton and Knox County elementary schools for the past 9 years. He was honored as WBIR Chanel 10 Educator of the week in late 2005.
He directed a chorus of inner-city youth that traveled and sang at venues such as the Dogwood Arts Festival House and Garden Show, City Council Building, and 2 Knox County School Administrators Christmas Parties. SAI Region 23 3 Heart to Heart 3 April 2008 3 Submissions Heart to Heart is now published six tim es a year: 2008: February April June August October Decem ber Send stories and photos to: Kay Crouch, Editor Region23H2H@aol.com or kcrouch@vanguardhealth.com He has directed church choirs professionally for the past 16 years. Having served in this capacity in Louisville and Oak Ridge, Kevin has been the director of the Kern Memorial UMC choir since 2002.
The quality and range of his choir is a testament to his musical leadership and talent. Although his Barbershop experience was in singing rather than directing, Kevin has made rapid strides in acclimating to the directing style of Barbershop. His wit, enthusiasm, and musical knowledge are inspirational to our chorus.
Kevin has been married to his lovely wife, Nikki for 9 years. They have 1 child, Caroline (age 2) and 1 child on the way. We 9re thrilled to welcome his family to our family in harmony!

Wow, what a ride it 9s been so far! We are so very excited about winning first place in the Chorus Competition at Regional this year and that Fiddlestix quartet (with TuneTown 9s Sherry Lewis and Marcy Cunningham) won 1 st and TuneTown 9s Last Minute quartet won 2 nd in the Quartet Competition!
We are so proud of the many new quartets formed in TuneTown that competed this year! We 9re now off to International 2009 in our own hometown, Nashville! Wearing our blue ribbon medals and learning new music, we 9re having great fun welcoming new members to our risers every week!
Yes, we 9re still growing! In April, we had our annual awards banquet. Joyce Peck was welcomed in as our new president replacing Bonnie Morgan.
Bonnie won TuneTown 9s highest honor, Sweet Adeline of the Year! Congrats to all the winners! By the first part of May, we began packing up and moving into our temporary rehearsal hall at Nashville Christian School, just down the street from our former location.
And special thanks go to the son of TuneTown 9s Patti Huddleston 9s who volunteered to take down and set up our risers every week! Golf anyone? TuneTown 9s second annual golf tournament fundraiser is set June 30 th at Temple Hills Golf Course.
Sherry Clifton is again heading this project. If you 9d like to sponsor, donate or just play a round, contact our web site! Hope to see you on the greens.
Lastly, we 9re beaming with excitement about getting to perform at the men 9s International Barbershop Convention in Nashville held the first week in July. Marketing Tips Submitted by Ginny Karschnik, Marketing Coordinator Now that the new Sweet Adeline Year is upon us, it is time for goal setting and development of a plan for marketing your chorus. What does your chorus do currently to sell itself?
How do you get the word out in your community about your chorus? Does your chorus belong to your local arts council? Do you passively wait for performance opportunities to present to you or do you actively promote your services ?
Does your chorus have a goal setting session each year? This often focuses on musical goals but should include plans for marketing and membership programs well. SAI Region 23 3 Heart to Heart 3 April 2008 5 If your chorus does not have someone in charge of PR/ marketing, why not volunteer to help in this area?
Our International marketing/ membership leaders have developed a new wide ranging marketing program that will be available this summer to supplement all the marketing materials already available to every chorus. This will include a wide range of marketing materials you can choose from including an online pressroom where you can customize pre written topics to send to your local press. Templates will be available so you can customize flyers, ads, business cards and just about any kind of advertising media you would want!
There will be a much more extensive use of the web and it 9s potential to reach new members as well. We will be providing more details as they become available. In harmony, Ginny Sing your heart out at Summer SingSation this June Submitted by Ginny Karschnik, Marketing Coordinator You won't want to miss this year 9s summer meeting in Birmingham with International guest faculty Betty Clipman.
We have lots of singing planned as all attendees will be divided into two SingSation Choruses for the entire weekend, coached by Betty and directed by two of our own Region 23 directors. Some of the classes we will attend will teach us how to keep the energy coming, vocal tips to make each of us a better singer, and ways to produce a unit sound. Betty Clipman is a Master Director, Certified Judge in 2 categories, past international Quartet Champion (1980) and past (1988 )International Champion Chorus director.
Her classes are sure to be exciting and entertaining as well as educational! Our new STAR song is We Are Family and will be the song we learn and perform that weekend. Music is available from International Sales.
Please contact Portia Little for details on the STAR song. Please mark your calendar and put your vacation request in now for June 5-8, 2008. You won't regret it!!!
